Real still after Ribery

Nando, simply the best

Reports in the Spanish press suggest that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is set to make one final attempt to sign French midfielder Franck Ribery from Bayern Munich.

The transfer saga can only continue until midnight on Monday and AS reports that Madrid will not rule out Ribery being a Blanco until the deadline has passed.

It is believed that Perez will table a €60 million bid for Ribery today, €5m higher than Madrid's last bid in mid-August, which was followed by sporting director Jorge Valdano saying Madrid would no longer pursue the Frenchman.

Another option being suggested in the press is a player-plus-cash deal involving Rafael van der Vaart, which may tempt Dutch coach Louis van Gaal.

With Ribery's agent Alain Migliaccio and Perez already having supposedly agreed a transfer for next summer, Bayern may be tempted to cash-in on Ribery now.

The player's valuation for next summer's deal is reported to be around €20-25m as he will be on the last year of his existing deal. The controversial Webster clause would then enable Ribery to fashion a transfer out of Munich next summer having completed three years of his deal while still under 28 years of age.

Ribery is reportedly refusing to sign an extension to his current contract, which ends in June 2011, and Bayern could potentially see him negotiate a free transfer away from the Allianz Arena after January 2011.

Sport reports that Valdano said after Madrid's 3-2 over Deportivo La Coruna at the weekend that the squad is complete, barring miracles.

The final day of the transfer window might just bring Madrid their miracle.
