Today we've been linked with David Silva and Kun Aguero.

I really hope we don't sign Silva. We're sorted for the wings atm with Nani, Park and Tosic who can all play left side. And this is going to be a big year for Nani and he shoudl be first choice

VDS out till end of september. absolutely gutted.

Quote:

Edwin van der Sar is facing up to eight weeks on the sidelines after undergoing finger surgery.

The Manchester United goalkeeper has gone under the knife after breaking a bone in his left hand.

The 38-year-old sustained the injury during United's Audi Cup defeat against Bayern Munich in Germany.

Saving Danijel Pranjic's spot-kick in a 7-6 penalty shootout reverse saw the Dutchman pick up the knock.

He will now be unavailable to Sir Alex Ferguson for the start of the new Premier League season.

That will enable either Ben Foster of Tomasz Kuszczak to stake a claim for a regular starting berth.

However, Nani feels he could be involved in Portugal's friendly in Liechtenstein on Wednesday after linking up with his national team.

"I think I can recover in time," said Nani. "We'll see how it turns out."

He added: "It's painful and it needs treatment.

"It's not a very serious injury. I need to take care of it and I expect to get better in the coming days."

Yesssssss hope he is back ASAP.

Barcelona were told that they had no chance of signing Nani by Manchester United following an enquiry shortly after last season's Champions League final, according to a report.

The Blaugrana were keen to secure the sevices of a left-sided forward early on after seeing Franck Ribery's price rise, but they had no luck in their first quest, The Sunday Telegraph state.

Nani is seen by United boss Sir Alex Ferguson as a key player and there was little chance he would be prepared to let go of the player in the same year that Cristiano Ronaldo left the club.

Pep Guardiola has made it clear that he wants another player for the left flank to compete with Thierry Henry, and felt that the Portugal international could be the answer.

Having been given a direct 'no' by the Premier League champions, Barca have since been linked with several players who could move to Camp Nou and play there.

Shakhtar's Dymtro Chygrysnkiy is one such star, while Valencia's Juan Mata is also said to be on the Catalan club's agenda as they look to add to their treble-winning squad.

According to a report in the Manchester Evening News, reigning Premier League champions Manchester United are considering making a move for Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

The Red Devils are in the market for a new goalkeeper due to the expected retirement of Edwin van der Sar at the end of this campaign. Back-up glovesman Ben Foster has been unable to impress so far whenever called upon.

The 23-year-old Neuer appeared to be on his way to Bayern Munich earlier this summer, but the transfer eventually collapsed due to Schalke's hefty asking price. However, United manager Alex Ferguson appears to be ready to match Schalke's €20 million price-tag.

Ferguson reportedly considers Neuer as the perfect replacement for Van der Sar and would be more than happy to add the German international to his squad with immediate effect in order to give him the chance to adapt to English football before taking over from the Dutchman next term.

Barcelona could be set to re-ignite their interest in Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic, and are preparing a bid for the Serbian, according to reports.

English tabloid The Daily Mirror suggests that the Blaugrana have suspended negotiations with Shakhtar Donetsk over the transfer of Dmytro Chygrynskiy, after the clubs could not agree terms, and have turned their attention to Vidic.

The 27-year old, who missed Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Birmingham City this afternoon through injury, has apparently become’s Pep Guardiola’s main target once again, after he previously courting the defender last season.

Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson is unlikely to encourage a move for the former Spartak Moscow stopper, who he paid £7m for in 2006, as he has formed a strong partnership with Rio Ferdinand in the Red Devils back line.

Guardiola is looking to strengthen his defensive options, following the departure of Martin Caceres to Juventus on loan, and has already added Maxwell from Inter.

Vidic was shortlisted for the PFA Player of the Year award last season in England, and has won the Premier League title for three consecutive seasons with the Old Trafford club.

The agent of Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic has denied saying his client would be "delighted" to join Barcelona.

Paolo Fabbri was understood to have told a Catalan radio station it was Vidic's dream to play for Barca, as he has a desire to play in the Primera Division one day.

However, Fabbri is claiming the quotes that left some United fans reeling have been fabricated.

"This is not true," he said, according to Sky Sports News. "I never said these things.

"Nemanja is happy in Manchester. If Barcelona do make an offer for him then it is up to United to make a decision."

The Champions League winners, who beat United in this year's final, have been loosely linked with an interest in Vidic in the past, though there has never been any concrete movement towards attempting to sign the player.

It is highly unlikely Sir Alex Ferguson would allow the Serbia international to leave Old Trafford, particularly after having already lost Carlos Tevez and Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.

Vidic has been out of action through injury, but does have a chance of featuring in tonight's away trip to Burnley.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp today laughed off speculation linking his Croatian playmaker Luka Modric with a move to Manchester United, whose manager Alex Ferguson is a known admirer of the player.

Modric himself has also revealed that he is not thinking of leaving Tottenham any day soon, as he is happy at White Hart Lane, looking forward to helping boost the Lilywhites' quest for success this season, and also anticipating that the offer of a new contract for him in north London may well be forthcoming soon.

"I feel great at Tottenham and I have given no thought to moving to a different club. My contract runs until 2013 and I am just thinking about staying," the Press Association report the player as telling Sportske Novosti.

"I wouldn't be surprised if Tottenham offer me a new contract as that is something which happens in England. But, even if that doesn't happen, my feelings will not change.

"I am happy at White Hart Lane and I will continue to give my all for Tottenham, as I always have."
